Bio

Abandoned Film is me, Daniel Stecko, a Montreal area keyboardist, composer, & studio musician.

I started taking classical piano lessons at age 7, then discovered The Beatles one Sunday afternoon watching HELP on TV. I thought they were pretty cool.

Then came Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and I began getting ideas….

At 13, I started making music-like noises with other hormone infused teenagers, and the thought was that to get girls, being in a band couldn’t hurt.

So through many band iterations of Kashmir, Oakenshield, Empty Glass, Leading Edge, Skyline Drive, Elegant Mess, Late Night Therapy, oy..here we are…

In 2000, I released a CD with the Group Therapy band called Sessions, a collection of originals. I had recently done some recording sessions with a Montreal area blues player, and that experience inspired me to record some of the tunes that we had been working on over the years. During this time, I also concentrated on putting a home studio together, and all but 3 of the Sessions tunes were recorded there.

Fast forward to 2018, a new CD, Intimate Terms With The Unknown, (way too many years in the making) is ready, and I`m very happy to finally be getting rid..I mean releasing it.

I grew up listening to progressive rock, and still love it. One of the first albums I ever bought was Genesis Seconds Out, still one of the greatest live rock albums ever recorded, IMHO. I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Queen, etc.

These days I listen to a lot of jazz as well, although you wouldn't know it from my music. maybe one day it will start to rub off. Some of my favorites are Chick, Herbie, Hiromi, Pat Metheny, Al Di Meola, Joey Alexander, and many more.

Have a listen to the tunes, and if you have any comments, please drop me a line.

Cheers,

Daniel
